about
Erica Schreiner's music video brings to life Mallory’s initial ideas about the divisive stigmatization of addiction and mental illness amidst a political situation imbued with violence, discrimination, and societal pressure. In her portrayal of communion and transformation, Erica illustrates these concepts of us versus them and us becoming other through the connection between life and death. Erica shows us the drinking of blood and the eating of apples as symbols of life, destroyed. We see the evolution of caterpillars to a dead butterfly, something beautiful, as is a vampire. We see the apple transform back from dead to living, and we are reminded that only the living can bleed.
lyrics
meet me in the darkest room
swallow up your pride while you get used
hunger, feed me
hungry, don't need me
hunger, feed me
hungry, don't need me, go
go on by yourself
I'm fine, I don't need help
you're right, don't look to me
throw up your arms and drop to your knees
hunger, feed me
hungry, don't need me
hunger, feed me
hungry, don't need me, go
go on by yourself
I'm fine, I don't need help
tearing me out of sleep
aren't you listening to me?
pretend you're not home
you think you're alone
don't walk down this road
your skin and your bones
bend down, surrender your peace
you can turn to violence whenever you need
hunger, feed me
hungry, don't need me
go on by yourself
I'm fine, I don't need help
